How do I clean my pinecones to use in projects?

I soak my pinecones in vinegar water and then dried them they still have a white crust on them how do I get it off

Hi Mary,
The white coating is probably the sap. The purpose of the vinegar water is to kill any insects in the pine cones and clean off any dirt or pine needles.
