I have several of these plastic chicken feeders which I bought to use as planters. Other than the obvious way of filling with dirt and planting a seed/plant in each hole, any ideas on how to use "differently"? Thanks for your help :)

    Can you drill a hole down the middle and insert a threaded rod so you can place several with one over the next spacing them apart. Might be interesting in making a hanging planter out of them with one hanging down over the next.

      @Jlricker Thanks so much for the reply; i definitely will use one to try it out as a bird feeder. The only reason I haven't so far is having to screw the jar on the feeder puts it upside down so to refill it, it has to be dismantled completely which my hubby (who is the bird-feeder filler-upper) would not take time to do since we have quite a few other types of feeders out already. Still, thanks for replying

      @Mary LOL, cute idea and would be great if there was anyone other than me to eat the sweets! I would definitely get in trouble with them as my kids are grown and moved on and my hubby does not like candy sweets! Thanks for the reply!

    Run a strand of Christmas lights into a mason jar and run plug out one hole. Then add some glass beads into bottom. They will reflect the light. Does not got too hot for plastic.

    Use an empty quart jar such as one from Miracle Whip. a piece of 1/4" allthread, and some nuts and bolts to make bird feeders.

      @Sandy Wimmer Gonna give the bird feeder idea a try! Keeping them filled will probably be the challenge...we have so many birds feasting at our current feeders; they'll probably send out a "buffet" all-call to all the fly-bys!!!! Love the idea...thanks!

      @Paulette Herrman Oh wow!!!!! If we could get hummers to come to them....that would be so fabulous! Gonna def try that! We have a myriad of hummingbird feeders that we put out and only get a few hits! We're thinking there must be some mega feeding station nearby; can't figure anything else. The few that come look like their on their way somewhere :( We would so love to get some regular hummers but so far haven't been able to latch on to any! Gonna give this a try! Thanks!

    Looks like a garden tool organizer to me.....but that's what I need is more organization lol How about painting it and use it as a centerpiece for an outdoor room with cut flowers and plants while you root them?

      @Beth Hancock Planting it with cuttings is a great idea! I'll definitely give that a try! Using it for a garden tool organizer wouldn't work as the item is way too small for that...well unless it was fairy garden tools! But I'm not doing a fairy garden right now but sure appreciate the reply and the cutting rooting station idea! Brilliant!

    Screen a quart size mason jar onto it. Fill with bird seed and wrap a piece of copper wire around it sort of like a Z, and leave a loop at the top to hang.

      @Lee Cole On doing some more research, i've found a few bird feeders made just like you described....very simple but very very attractive! Definitely gonna do this...thanks for replying!

    What about a buffet server....You could put a bowl of maybe squared angel food cake and into the holes around it put smaller bowls of topping ingredients like chocolate syrup, coconut, nuts, caramel syrup...whatever toppings you like.

    use your chicken feeders as flower pots ,plant different kinds of flowers in each opening's and fill the rest of the top up with potting soil and plant a ivy ( small one ) for the topper hope it works ! let me know ok also where did you purchase the feeder I would like to get some and try this idea myself , are they cheap ? I'm very frugal and always looking for a very good deal :) Lydia Salinas from s. m. ca.

      @1@godsgarden Hey Lydia, thanks for your suggestion; definitely will give this a try! I don't remember exactly where i purchased them but i just googled them and there are lots of places selling them for about $5 or less. Since they are pretty sturdy plastic, i imagine they'll last quite a long time Thanks again for the suggestion.

    You could use one as a candy dish. I think it would make a great herb garden by planting different herbs in the holes.

      @Nancy Park Thanks Nancy! Love the herb garden idea...will definitely give that a try; candy...not so much, LOL! I put candy in there and I'l be the one munching on it all day! So, thanks for the reply...I really do love the herb idea!

    Use it as a desk caddy. Paint or your favorite color. Add a jar or plain round vase in the center. The smaller openings can house smaller glass containers (all from dollar store). Center can be used to hold scissors, pens, pencils and smaller ones can hold paper clips, etc.

    You can use these as gift ideas. Fill with a bag of M&M's etc. That way your person recieving the gift can fill them selves. I would use a mason quart jar to screw to the base. Paint the glass jar. Tie at the base with a beautiful ribbon. Have fun with it. Ta-da

    I use these for bird feeders. A Mason jar fits perfectly. Have also used them to plant small succulents. Good luck!
