Do not put frozen juice (plastic) cans in the dishwasher! They come out clean and then you must deal with the paint in the dishwasher! My 99 year old mother saves everything so she put them in the dishwasher. We had a talk.
I suggest two options. First is a good glove (or two) that is designed to prevent cutting yourself. Second is to ue a can opener they cuts the rim off the can.
I am constantly cutting plastic jugs! I have used many for categorizing my paint brushes as acrylic used ones and oil paint brushes. I also use them for varied pots when I am separating plants such as my aloe plants, African violets, or other plants. I give them to my friends with potting soil with the plant.
I tell you a really cute project I saw on YouTube. They were using 2 liter bottles, covering them with air dryable modeling clay and then painting them. They were making absolutely beautiful fairy house and things out of them. You might check them out if your feeling creative. There were many different ones and all were really pretty. They would make a great keepsake for a little gir.
