How do I measure windows for curtains?




When ordering window curtains how much wider than the window do you measure. I understand the length.so if my window is 50 inches how wide she my curtain be?

Decide on the fullness you want when the curtain is hung. 2.5 is good for sheers... then multiply 2.5 by 50 ..... 125.

For curtains, I like them fuller and use 3 times the window width. For drapes, it depends on the style.

Curtains (sheers) should be 3x the window width (including framing), plus an extra 8-12" (rod should extend 4-6" to either side of window, and be mounted at least those dimensions above the top of window framing.
If lined draperies, they should be at least 2x/2.5x the width. You'll have to add at least 4" -6" more fabric, if you have traverse rods, due to center overlap, plus the distance from the rod end to the wall ("returns"), so that no light shows through.
