I live in an apt complex on the ground floor. I have mini-blinds that I can't alter (cut cords, etc) how can I dress them up so they don't look so institutional without damaging them in any way (affecting my lease). Beige walls, white blinds.

Hi Laura. Can you add a valence over them and put up a small curtain? If the window frame is deep enough maybe you could even you a tension rod. Good Luck.

Maybe you could weave strips of cloth, ribbon, etc. through the slats.

I found myself in this position once. I have a dog and window was low, did not want her to damage it. So I simply eliminated the problem and removed it, then put it back when I moved. I pulled it up to the top and then took off the tabs used to hold it in place. I secured the blind with rubber bands (because i didn't have any twine), then i taped the tabs to the blind for safe keeping and put it under the head of my bed.Closet etc works, wherever you have space. Cover/wrap it with plastic or cloth to protect from dust, etc.
Then a tension rod and curtains gave me freedom to do whatever I wanted. You can tie it into your style, use washable blackout ones if that is needed (available in multiple colors). Possibilities endless. Simply reinstall when you're ready to move out.
