Tired of the huge wreath above my door, suggestions?

My home is a mid-entry style home, and it is so blank up there, but I am really getting tired of the wreath. Would love some suggestions on what to fill it in with. It is really high up so I wouldn't change it very often. Help!

I would just take it down and leave the space open.  I would use the front doorand framing as the focal point. Probably using color.

I would definitely take it down! You could have a porch cover built for protection from the elements on the front door. Or just paint the middle part of your siding an accent color.

This is a bit more than you asked for...:) I would take the wreath down, and chunk up the trim around the door and add some on top. Something like this: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/build/doors-windows/update-your-doors-with-easy-craftsman-trim-9734273 You could paint it black, and your door a great cherry red or royal blue. Alternatively you could put an address plaque in the space.

@Netters Maybe a large barn wood flag, or silhouette of something the represents your lifestyle, mountains, & trees, fishing, etc.... Or perhaps hang a large antique stained glass window or something along those lines. Honestly I would not replace it with anything. I would rather the attention be focused toward the bottom. You can dress it up with container plantings based on each season.

The Amish make tin stars from old barn roofs. They come in various sizes & colors. I have one on the front of my house up in the pitch of the eave. Also one on my brick chimney in the back yard. Subtly patriotic.

We lived in an identical home and changed out the very same light fixture above the door to a larger hanging light on a chain. We had a pediment on top of the door too.  It looked very nice. I also had two large urns of seasonal flowers/greens on each side of the door.

If you have room how about a pyramidal evergreen on each side in those pots. Some folks also like over sized black ornate metal pieces. Something w/your last name initial comes to mind but there are lots of different choices I also like the hanging pendant light idea, (black) also. Any small touch always invigorates the home front and gives pride in ownership--I think.

Since it is outside and up high, I think I would get some weatherproof (plastic, foam, wood) accessories and decorate for every season. Bright fall colored leaves take you through November, then a few trees cut out of wood and accented like snow takes you through to Spring with flowers, maybe Zinnia types, Then a wooden flag with some ribbons hanging down...Most of these are easy to make.

I would build an interestingly shaped faux window and have it securely hung there.If you paint the back of the glass a smoke color the window will look real

Consider a vintage gate,window or door. Check your area for the Habitat for Humanity Restore..they have some nice stuff, dirt cheap. I would like to suggest having a little peaked roof installed about midway up, over the door.  You could shingle it to match or go with something like a burnished copper.  Then I would just concentrate on below and never have to think about it again.

How about a canopy to make the entrance more noticeable and give shelter from the weather? Or you could build an arbor to frame the entrance and have climbing flowers?
