I recently joined The DIY Forum on Facebook and have been inspired by all the wonderfully talented members. September's challenge, was a Thrift Store Furniture Challenge. Here are my results. I hope you enjoy seeing the transformation.
I found this set of end tables at a local tag sale for $15. Great deal for 2 tables! As you can see, they sat under some other projects for a few weeks.
These are the products I used on these tables. I love General Finishes Milk Paints and their High Performance Top Coat in Flat. As you can tell by the look of the can, I am a big fan of Rust-oleum's Java Brown Decorative Glaze. These are my go-to products.
Since the tables had some areas of water damage and deep scratches, I sanded and primed each table. Then I painted each table with 2 coats of General Finishes' Seagull Gray Milk paint. You can see how pretty this gray color is here.
Next, I distressed the edges of the table and antiqued them with the warm brown (Rust-oleum Java Brown) glaze. I always say, this is when the piece "comes alive". You get to see all the details and character of the piece. Finally, I sealed both of the tables with multiple coats of General Finishes High Performance Top Coat in Flat.
And here are the final results!!!
The original hardware and decorative trim went unnoticed when the tables were stained a dark brown. But now they stand out!
I can't wait for these tables to find a new home!!!
Enjoyed the project?
