Transplanting trees

Janet Pizaro on Sep 29, 2015I would recommend transplanting your trees in early spring to allow more time for the root structure to readapt. Although many gardeners think fall is the best time it depends on where you are located.Helpful Reply

Patty S on Sep 30, 2015My question first is: are you transplanting one that you are digging up from your own yard or is it one from a nursery in a container? Fall is best if it is from a nursery...that is why nurseries bring in new loads of trees and shrubs in the fall. Spring is best when removing it from the ground to relocate it.Helpful Reply

Gma Kirk on Sep 30, 2015Actually, late winter is best- the tree is dormant, less likely to experience shock. Also, dig the place it will go first. The less time it is out of the ground, the better!Helpful Reply

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Sep 30, 2015I agree with Gma Kirk, best time to transplant is fall after the leaves fall off. Billie also offers great advice to pay attention to the water even in the fall and winter they will need your attention on a new transplant.Helpful Reply
