Family picture timeline

I am a picture fanatic, I have more pictures to hang than I have wall space! My current project is focused on our family pictures. With exception to one year (it was a crazy year), we have had our family pictures taken each year since we became a family (11 years). I have an 8x10 framed picture of each year but they are all in very different frames, which I really enjoy. The wall I have decided to use is in the living room, above a large sectional. I am looking for a way to display each year's picture in a timeline fashion, with the idea that I will be able to add a new picture each year.
One thing to keep in mind is that I already have a rather large collage display in my dining room, and we have an open floor plan, so I worry that displaying these pictures in another collage will be too much for that space. My first thought is to hang them on a long curtain rod, using ribbon, but I am having a hard time visualizing it. Any suggestions welcome!

It seems like you have a lot of photos possibly to many for that wall. The only suggestion I have to to research Pinterest for ideas.

Tisha, I love this idea. It's hard to say for sure without seeing the relation of this wall to the dining room collage wall, so I'll reply only about what your showing. Yes, I think it could work. I would stagger them in a row realizing that it may never look just right with each year adding a new photo. Another idea could be to add maybe twenty or more 8 x 10 frames in the collage with other photos of the family interspersed throughout that can be rotated each year you add another family group photo.

Considering all you said and w/only one home photo I am going to suggest that you limit your collage of photos to one area and possibly some how center the most recent year photo w/eventually dropping off the oldest surrounding photo and doing a scrap book album for the older ones (those are fun). Lay your arrangement on the floor until it is like you want it and transfer the spacing to your wall. I would do a tapestry, mirror or large picture over the sofa if this is the entry room to your home. What ever you choose---enjoy and make it your own!

I also have many family photos! The rage now is old windows with photos. If you don't want to cut them, take them and have them copied and then cut them to fit the window pane size. In a 6 or 9 pane window you can get a LOT of family photos when you paste on poster board that fits the pane size. You could still hang several framed photos around. Go to Pinterest check out my window board. Hope we get to see your finished wall.

Maybe a picture ledge or two would work. See photo.

I made these picture shelves years ago. I had the photos scattered all over this hallway. I think this is better. Photos can be moved or changed to fit what you want up there without nails etc. You can make them to any configuration and stagger or change the lengths.

@MaryAnn B- This is the second mention of picture shelves, and I think it may be the answer to my problem!! However, I may need to put the shelves on another wall, because I think we may run into problems with pictures falling down on my head!! Thank you for these pictures, your shelves are gorgeous!!

Tisha, I made my shelves so that there is a piece of molding on the front to hold the pics from sliding forward. Also you can use some museum or floral sticky stuff to hold them in place. I've run into mine with my shoulder several times over the years and they haven't hit the floor yet.....

Here's what I did... Found a fav frame at JoAnn Fabrics, (used coupons). Used Gold leaf paint & painted the inside beading of the frames, to add some pizazz. Took out the same ol' flower pics. Replaced them with family photos. LOVE it! I think it would look lovely on your wall.
