I found a stained, outdated upholstered cane chair at my local Goodwill recently that badly needed a makeover. The chair had potential, but I wasn't interested in upholstering. This month I'm participating in the Fab Flippin' Furniture Contest and the theme is design. This month the sponsor is General Finishes. I picked my milk paint color, Coastal Blue, found the perfect geometric fabric and I was set!
I started by using a product made especially for painting fabric. I painted the product on, then let it dry for 24 hours. Once dry I painted two more coats on the chair back, drying for 24 hours in between each coat. The General Finishes milk paint is a great water based paint, that goes on nicely and dries to a soft satiny finish.
Once the entire chair was painted, I upholstered the seat of the chair in my geometric fabric. For one last tough I painted the bottom of the two front legs with 24K gold paint.
