CK on Oct 04, 2015If your walls are particularly dirty you may want to wash them then prime. But if they're not dirty, you could just go ahead and prime then paint.Helpful Reply

Shari on Oct 04, 2015I'm not clear if it is new or old wallboard you are planning to paint. For new, unpainted wallboard, wiping or scrubbing should not be necessary. One coat of primer should be sufficient. Since it is the kitchen, I don't think it would hurt to give the walls a wipe-down first with TSP or some type of degreasing cleaner if the walls have been painted before. Unless there is visible, heavy splatters of food or grease residue, I don't think scrubbing is necessary. One coat of primer will probably be enough. However, if the current paint color is a medium or dark shade and your new paint color is light, you probably should use 2 coats of primer. You won't use as much paint that way.Helpful Reply

Janet Pizaro on Oct 04, 2015Whenever prepping walls for painting they should be cleaned first.. Depending on what walls you are referring to it may be necessary for more than one coat of primer.Helpful Reply
