What to do when a complete dresser makeover is stalled by a lack of original hardware...or replacement hardware isn't readily available in the right size? Make your own!
The first time I saw this "holy smokes" find, I passed it up because I wasn't sure I would be able to remove that flashy gold and cream finish.
I love the curves of Serpentine Dressers and knew there was tiger oak (also called "quarter sawn" wood) underneath that flashy paint job. Even though I never stripped furniture before I knew this barn sale find couldn't get any worse. So I went back a year later and brought it home.
I recalled a favorite blogger had posted that she used wooden beads to replace drawer hardware. I wanted something a little flashier so I picked up a couple of cheapie pearl and silver bracelets, mixed bead strings, and 18 gauge wire.
I popped them through the original holes, twisted the wire tightly in the back (I'd secure with staple gun if these were drawers I'd use frequently) and LOVED the outcome!
For about $30, I had custom hardware that really gave this makeover the perfect finishing touch.
I'm super excited about the finished dresser...my favorite project to date!

How fun! Yes! Definitely post pics!
Fyi, several of the bigger paint companies have a visualizer where you can upload a pic of a room and see how it would look in their colors...BUT...you can hack it to color your furniture as well. Check out my blog to see how I played with it. It’s actually addictive!
