After lots of research I went with a company named Giani, Inc. I ordered my countertop kit finished should look like granite, water based lead free and made in USA. Very easy no hard scrubbing and simply beautiful.

I used the Giani product too. I've done it over after 2 years and the second time was less successful, as the paint peels in some little places. I wish there was a better solution, but I haven't found one other than spend 4K on new granite counters.

@Cynde Peace I too have used Giani and have not had any problems yet. But I did order extra top coat and did at least 3 coats and 4 in heavy traffic areas and made sure to wrap all the way under counter edges. I love the stuff.

There is a spray paint that you can use to make them look like stone. Try your local home improvement stores.

Check out http://www.gianigranite.com. This is what we used. Please keep in mind success is in the preparation. Good luck.

It isn't stone but I used a cement product (Ardex Feather Finish) on my bathroom counter and it's beautiful. Very easy to apply and work with and I loved the finished project. It was also very inexpensive - about $40.00 for the bag of cement through Amazon and I still have most of the bag left. I didn't color mine so it has a natural gray color which I love.

Marie, you say you want to "restore counter tops", but I wonder if you mean you want to "refinish" them to look like stone. If so, what type are your counters now?

If you are looking for a quick and inexpensive idea, I recently did mine with Rustoleum Accent Stone spray and it looks amazing!

@Tammy Robertson I thought about that but what would you use to seal and protect it? Did you sand them down? I did that to all my outlet overs ad they are beautiful

Here are a few ideas. You can go with faux granite Laminate countertop: http://goo.gl/4UGHma You can use paint to create a faux granite surface: http://goo.gl/fyIJn0 There's also a faux granite film you can use. I researched Kathrine's idea of the Ardex and found some great how to's on youtube. They look fantastic. I'm going to experiment and add some black pigment to see if I can replicate soap stone then do my mud room counter. Thanks Kathrine!

I lightly sanded the tops then did about 3 coats of the stone spray. There are a few options for top coat protection. I used clear 2x Rustoleum coat on my bathroom. countertop and its holding up well. The kitchen countertop I think I might use a clear coat acrylic not quite decided on that one yet
