Paint bathroom shower tiles
-
KdMommy on Oct 12, 2015Yes!!! When we moved into the duplex that we are currently in, we found that someone had painted the porcelain tiles that framed the shower. There was also a ton of other problems with the paint in the bathroom but the peeling paint on the tiles had to go first. I scraped all of the paint off by hand and with a razor blade being careful not to damage the grout, and gave it just a light sanding to clear away the remnants and rough it up slightly. Next I used high gloss, white trim paint and sealed it with a layer of varnish. We've been here more than 4 years now and none of the paint is peeling or showing any wear at all. So, yes, it can be done and look fabulous!Helpful Reply

Mary Lebrecht on Oct 12, 2015Yes, but if you plan to stay there for a long time i'd go with a professional.. they can spray it on and use a better product. It can be used the next day and looks amazing .Look for reglazing. The paint that we used ourselves did start chipping in a few years.Helpful Reply

Cricket on Oct 12, 2015I painted all of the grout in all of my bathrooms, on the tub walls and on the floors as well as the walls. I even painted the ceiling to match the grout. I did this about 10 years ago and the rooms all clean up nicely and still look as if we just did them. I used an exterior paint. So yes you can paint at least the grout!Helpful Reply

LD on Oct 12, 2015If you are looking to keep the grout clean and to make cleaning the shower easier, you can apply a sealer over the tile and grout, but not this is not a permanent sealer and will have to be periodically redone. Now if you don't like the color of the grout or it has become damaged, you can remove the grout and re-grout the tile again. If you are looking to change the tile and grout color all together, then you can paint it and here is a link that should be helpful. http://www.todayshomeowner.com/how-to-paint-over-ceramic-tile-in-a-bathroom/Helpful Reply
