Advise about putting in a glassed, two sided master bath shower

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 23, 2013When choosing glass, look into glass that has been treated using shower guard or similar product. What this treatment does is help prevent build up of hard water stains. There are several other types of products that do this, but some work better then others. Without this treatment you will spend hours trying to get the water and soap stains off of the glass.Helpful Reply

Gail Salminen on Feb 24, 2013@Cyndi Moore Tippett we have a walk in shower, no door required, and we love it. Had it installed about 7 years ago. We use a squeegee to take excess water off the glass after a shower and clean both the tiles and glass with scrubbing bubbles - no effort required. We have not had a problem with build up at all, and I love all the light it lets in. We did try a special glass treatiment recommended by the glass experts but it made it very difficult to clean, left lots of smears, streaks and its own build up, but finally got all of that off with the scrubbing bubbles for an easier clean.Helpful Reply

Superior Remodeling, LLC on Feb 25, 2013Rain-x Works well on shower glass. Are you going to be installing the tile? If so make sure the walls that the glass attach to are plumb. Especially if you are going to go with a heavy frame less glass. Also before applying the tile to the durock backer board it is smart to use some type of Roll on membrane for waterproofing like this http://www.mapei.us/pdf/Realta/REALTA10_en.pdf and if you want a semi maintenance free shower use epoxy grout.Helpful Reply

Hewitt Remodeling Services LLC on Feb 25, 2013Cyndi, When you say a quartz base, are you referring to some sort of cultured marble product? Also, is it a true three-sided shower or is one side layed out in a neo-angle design? TimHelpful Reply

Houseworks Unlimited, Inc. on Feb 25, 2013If you can see through the tile, make sure to knock-down the trowel marks in the thin-set before you set them. Nothing worse than seeing all kinds of funky stuff going on behind the tile once everything sets-up.Helpful Reply

Cyndi Moore Tippett on Feb 25, 2013Tim, we were looking at a quartz base that Lowes carries now. It reminds me of solid surface material and can be used instead of building a shower base. We have done that before and it was not fun, so we wanted to do a "ready made" base. We are tiling two walls because the shower sits in the corner and then have two walls of glass with one being a door or three sided with the door being centered across the "right" corner. We are trying to figure out which one gives us the most door clearance.Helpful Reply
