Honest pros & cons of Black Galaxy granite

We're doing a new build. Using light cream cabinetry and stainless appliances with a medium engineered hardwood floor. I love the look of contrasting Black Galaxy granite (with silver specks) with the cabinets. I know the black granite would require more upkeep. Am I crazy using it? Would love honest comments from those who have "been there, done that." Regrets? Please share!

think you are nuts . 1. granite is still expensive 2. must seal - probably annually - more money drain 3. if you want to keep it looking good you will have a high maintenance job

one of our son's has this in all 4 bathrooms. They love it. I hate it. It shows every water speck, every dust speck and must be cleaned weekly (at least). And yes, you seal it annually.

Something MUCH better than granite.....QUARTZ! I recently gutted my kitchen.....after looking at the possibilities, I chose quartz and I am very happy with it. I got Black with silver specks....but they are very few and far between so as not to look too glitzy. My kitchen cabinets are white with black button knobs...I love my kitchen. Another possibility is Tempered Glass.....It is absolutely gorgeous! I have it in one of my bathrooms. (sink) Good Luck!

We will be doing a kitchen remodel in a house we are buying. I, too, had considered black granite with silver specks (LOVE the glittery effect), but was told it would show EVERYTHING! I'm a neat freak and wasn't thrilled with that possibility. So, now, I am shopping for something else. Still toggling between Quartz and granite...they both have their ups and downs. We are on a budget, so we will probably go with the less expensive. Just be careful with quartz if you get it....it does scorch if you place hot items on it.

@Sherri I too have heard that the black does show EVERYTHING. While we don't have small children, we do alot of entertaining...so wisdom would dictate that I don't use the black granite. We have found quartz to be a little more costly than granite. I love the movement of granite and the fact it is created...not man made. I'm pretty sure I will go with granite and if I'm smart, probably won't choose black. Guess I'll have to love the look from afar!
