We are a few days away from closing on our new home! While it's not as much of a construction project as our last house was, it is in desperate need of home decor updates. Help us by sharing your favorite paint brand and colors, any pins from Pinterest you love, any before and after or tutorials you've done yourself, whatever you think might help...we appreciate it!

What kind of decor do you like in the kitchen?
What colors of siding and trim go with limestone?
The bedrooms are all either deep plum or navy blue. Too dark! (Our little girls are wanting yellow with rainbows...how do we incorporate that?!)
The icky master bedroom.
We don't know what they were thinking either...plenty of space to put in a double sink and a big tub though!
What are your thoughts on accent walls in large rooms like these?

Wow...you have a BIG journey ahead of you. I would start with very defined smaller projects and work them through completely before getting into the next one. This will give you a sense of progress rather than the chaos of a whole house remodel that seems to never end. Divide et impera Do you remember your basic latin? Divide and Conquer

@Rachael wow, you have your work cut out for you. Perhaps the first decision is where to start, prioritize the rooms by the amount of time you spend in them. I suspect this is a multi year project -t would be for me as I am quite cheap and don't want to pay full price for anything. Based on your photos, I wil provide some suggestions for consideration, I think you have to consider a colour scheme for the house based on your needs - light - and your preferences. The colours should flow throughout the house rather than fight with each other. Kitchen - I would get rid of the yellow. Perhaps replace the countertops - consider a bar countertop on the right with a few bar chairs on the other side, if there is a level floor on the other side. Perhaps paint the cupboars out to lighten the room up. Outside - limestone goes well with the neutral colours. So perhaps a hue of beige. You could also consider a butterscotch hue for the doors for the pop effect. Dark rooms - neutralize with one of the colours you choose, remembering to make them flow, without keeping the same paint colour for every room - that becomes boring in no time. I noticed you have popcorn ceilings, if you are up to the challenge, you could remove that and then in some rooms consider painting the ceilings the same colour as the wall, makes for an easier paint job. Carpet on the wall should be removed, vacuuming floors is enough of a challenge, adding walls to that is just insane LOL Get rid of the dust trap - if you have pets, the hairs will cling to it! Bathroom, I agree with you - What were they thinking :P. You may have to neutralize it before you can make any decisions. Looks like lots of space so if you wanted to add extra storeage, you may be able to pick up a secondhand armoire or dressers - we have both in our bathroom and I love it, keep clothing needed after a shower and pjs in there and the dresser holds a lot of the stuff we don't use as often - and refinish them to add more character. If you like the floors keep them, if not maybe a ceramic tile. Grey bathroom, consider tiling right to the ceiling inside the shower - maintenance is much easier. The walls, I would paint out in a solid colour, could even do the ceiling in the same colour. Great room - I suggest changing the flooring, current one is too distracting. Paint walls and add window treatments. Could add an area carpet with accent colours of your accessories. Considering the length of time this could take you could start with paint that can be changed out easily, then develop a plan. Thanks for posting, I love these challenges. Do keep us up-to-date on your progress, I am most interested to see how it comes together. :)

What a huge house... beautiful spaces.... but it is dark... covered porches tend to do that... I would take out all the top cupboards... for windows :) and if you can get rid of the soffet (sp?) ... so heavy looking.... refurbish the cabinets a light color... that could be one gorgeous and effecient kitchen... I don't know what they were thinking in the bathroom... I have fought tooth and nail not to have that floor in my kitchen... makes me dizzy... I do like the art work on the wall... except it kind of looks like an ultrasound paper trail... but they did a good job at it... The great room... :) I'd fill tht w/ plants and trees... They have alot of whites that are tinted.... light will cast the softest hue of color.... when you do the entire room.. ceiling and walls... it's a beautiful effect... calming outside would be super pretty w/ a green sage/ olive ... I did a friends cedar shake house in Olive trim and almost a dusty lemon yellow.... was so pretty.... blended into the surroundings almost... he also had alot of rockwork good luck and have fun!

It looks like it was a party house...But I would start in the kitchen, gut it completely, take out knee wall. And open it up....The bathroom is huge, you could have a nice roomy shower, and Jacuzzi with a nice big vanity. By the way, it does not matter what color the brick is on the outside...You can make your home warn and inviting, just brighten it up....Do not use colors like blue, red, green...Stay away from colors that will date it all too soon. Have fun...I am in the middle of gutting a house from 1870....Cost me a fortune but will be well worth it...
