A Big Mosaic Chair for a Garden, Park or Field
by
Jessica Byrnes
(IC: homeowner)
My inspiration was a pile of bricks I saw while walking my dogs through a field. I was already into mosaics and collecting pieces of broken china, discontinued small tiles, pieces of glass, old jewelry, etc.
I also came across an old broken chair frame - this is not the one, as mine was bigger. I wanted to build up the broken chair with bricks, and.....
a bag of cement from the hardware store......
I gathered up the broken chair and the bricks and then built the bricks up around the chair and cemented them. I made the bricks wider than the chair so that it ended up as quite large. I used WHITE VERSABOND over the DRIED cement to stick all the tiles, pebbles, etc into the chair shape. As always, there was no real planning - it was just stick as you go.
Details of arm rest.
Nothing was coordinated. When you are using Versabond in the hot sun, you have to work fast before it dries - here are some details.
The chair was named Artsiphartsi.
