A Feature Wall to enhance the look of your room is the perfect DIY project. See how I created one in my basement using baseboards!
Last winter I was all set to create a board and batten "feature wall" in the basement, this is the wall I chose. After measuring height and width and a rough idea of the pattern I liked I quickly realized the cost of recreating my favorite board and batten design was too costly for the basement. Being determined to figure out a better way I went to our local overstock building supply warehouse, Loading Dock South for ideas on making it more affordable.
I measured and cut the boards to size using a miter saw. A table saw would have been a better idea for this size baseboards.
I attached the baseboards to the wall using a pneumatic nail gun.
I used the longest level I had, liquid adhesive and tape when a stud wasn't nearby.
You might think this is the after photo, sadly it isn't. See the space between the frames at the top? I thought that looked unfinished so I decided to make three more smaller boards to connect them.
Using the remnants of the baseboards I trimmed the decorative edge off with a jigsaw.
Attached to wall with liquid adhesive.
With Gorilla Glue liquid adhesive and masking tape.
Tah-Dah! Well, not quite but sort of. I added a fresh coat of paint to the surrounding wall and soffit area, caulked every single piece of added trim and most importantly I added my own custom coffered/beadboard ceiling to the suspended ceiling and this is how it looks now!
Just to see if you were paying attention were you wondering-where did the door go??Hop over to my blog and I'll show where it went!

OMG, I just ran across your post, and want to join your site, because the walls and ceiling in your basement is fabulous. They are exactly what I want to do to my basement. Wow, very high end looking.
