Deodorize the fridge

Janet Pizaro on Nov 10, 2015Put open boxes of baking soda in the fridge. I would also clean the fridge with white vinegar and water. Between the two your odor should disapate.Helpful Reply

B. Enne on Nov 10, 2015Click on 3 blue dots to expand. The black thing you are talking about is it one of these things? http://www.amazon.com/Whirlpool-8171398SRB-Refrigerator-Deodorizer/dp/B003DA62RE If it is, it probably should be replaced, since it could be trapping the odour in the fridge. That brand says it works in all fridges. If it is not, perhaps you can wash it? Many years ago, I had a hidden piece of broccoli rot in a cottage fridge for months, and nothing got rid of the smell, until I did the following: 1-I washed everything down with straight vinegar (after doing it with diluted vinegar many times to no avail). 2-I kept replacing baking soda...it didn't do much, but I kept trying. 3- I saturated cotton balls with straight vanilla extract (the real one works a bit faster, but the fake stuff works too). 4- I put them on each shelf on little plates. 5- I replaced them when they were dry or smelly. 6-That was the only thing that worked, and I still use 1 or 2 to this day, as needed.Helpful Reply

Freewine on Nov 10, 2015I had two teacher's aides at school who promised me they would take the two half gallons of unused ice cream with them when we left for the summer. The fridge was moved to a new room the week school ended and was left unplugged with those two cartons of ice cream still inside. Returned that fall to a smell you would not believe.... tried everything and nothing worked until we put a bowl of vanilla flavoring inside (use the real stuff not the imitation kind) and left it closed as much as possible for about a week. Smell all gone and fridge saved.Helpful Reply
