Bathrooms leak!
Then I noticed the carpet in the hallway was wet..chills up my spine..oh no! Seems the toilet tank bolts let loose, also the turn off valve on the floor to the toilet was leaking, ! Thankfully one of our guests is pretty handy, however shy in telling hubs how and what to do. Oh dear.
Now I am worried about the floor, will it swell, rot...what ?
This morning the drama continues...I hope the friend can help the hubs! I get really worried about stuff like this.
Any suggestions about what to look for further?

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Dec 11, 2011I long as you got the water up fast, I would not be to worried about any wood swelling. But be sure that you got the carpet dried real good or mold can develop in the padding below. A good wet/dry vacuum should do the trick. Are the new faucets leaking out of the stems? Very common with new ones. You need to tighten the little nut located just behind the handle to stop any dripping. You do not have to go overboard doing this however, Just snug it up a little bit. This will or should stop any leaks out of the handle stems.Helpful Reply

The Money Pit on Dec 11, 2011Agreed -- no need to panic. Many folks wrongly think they'll have instant destruction when building materials get wet. Fortunately, they are pretty resilient. Deal with the leaks and don't worry about structural damage.Helpful Reply

Bernice H on Dec 12, 2011Thanks for the assurances..hubs and friend got something new to us, called shark bite...they just click together. They were very immpressed. I am relieved. I put a fan where it is damp/wet. It is not sopping wet, so I am relieved at least by this. 3 leaks at once...good gravy, how!Helpful Reply

April on Dec 12, 2011Sorry to hear about your troubles, but glad to hear things worked out and that you got so many helpful replies, Praise God :) I would think as long as you mopped it up pretty quickly, it should be fine. As mentioned, lots of products are made to be really resilient nowadays.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Dec 12, 2011Shark Bites are pretty good devices. Great for those who have difficulty doing solder work or cannot get the pipe to stop dripping. We use them a lot when its not safe to solder for risk of fire.Helpful Reply

Beth Davis on Feb 15, 2016Bernice, put a fan on the wet carpet or it might mildew underneath. I'd leave it running day & nite for several days. Best of luck! I HATE expensive plumbing problems. I live in an old home and in 2013 we spent about $5,000 on plumbing!!Helpful Reply

Darla on Feb 15, 2016If the leaks are fixed, pull up the carpet so it and the floor can dry. Then you can see if the particle board will be OK. Worst case, you will have to replace it with 3/4 inch plywood, which is not as big a job as it sounds.Helpful Reply
