Dragonintheattic on Nov 14, 2015After you clean the fabric ( I would research on-line for that), maybe you could buy a can of Scotchgard and spray your couch; a couple of layers should do to repel dirt.Helpful Reply

Marie Caruana on Nov 15, 2015After cleaning your sofa, get washable slipcovers if you can find some to fit. Then spray with Scotchguard to lessen amount of washing you do. I also put a throw where my husband always sits and wash that frequently. ("What do you mean change my pants before I sit down?")Helpful Reply

Pat on Nov 15, 2015Paint it with chalk paint. Go to "Painted Purple Lady" and you can get all the information you need. You can also make your own paint and it will save you money. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Glaynebaker on Nov 15, 2015Do an Internet search on "painting fabric" or "painting upholstery" and you will have lots of instructions and videos to choose from. If you are using latex house paint, you will need a good "fabric medium" to add to it so that the finished product has flexibility and isn't hard.Helpful Reply

MaryEllen on Nov 15, 2015I've seen fabrics in craft stores like Michaels & Joannes. I also saw an Annie Sloan chalk paint video that demonstrated dabbing the paint into the fabric then followed with the clear wax to seal and protect the paint. I imagine that would be found on You Tube. I personally haven't tried it but it looked simple enough. She used it on a wooden chair with fabrick seat and back. The sofa obviously will be more time consuming. Good luck on your endeavor.Helpful Reply

Bernice H on Nov 15, 2015How about those old fashioned plastic couch covers....remember those? Last time I saw those was on Everyone Loves Raymond........yeah I think I would just put a washable sofa cover on it,take it off and throw it in washer when needed.Helpful Reply

LD on Nov 15, 2015Thoroughly clean your sofa, and then add three coats of Scoth Guard to the entire sofa. Scotch Guard does make one that is intended for outdoors, which repels moisture as well as dirt. This might be a better option since hubby can't be bothered to change out of dirt soiled clothing. One can paint fabric, but please understand that this makes the fabric stiff feeling. I personally make hubby do the cleaning and applying the Scoth Guard, so maybe he would realize the amount of time, and cost it takes in order to keep the sofa looking nice.Helpful Reply

Dragonintheattic on Nov 16, 2015If you want to paint your furniture, I read that the paint florists use on flowers is good and fabric stays soft. Sometimes a sealant is required but it's right there with the flower paint. Cannot speak from personal experience though.Helpful Reply

Pat Keadle Gougler on Nov 19, 2015You might use fabric dye in a spray bottle or use a roller. A sofa would be a big project, but I've used it on dining room chair seats. It worked great.Helpful Reply

Lee on Nov 20, 2015I have painted fabric for floorcloths. Which i primed and painted with latex paint with a poly top coat and then waxed. I bet if you research floorcloths you will get a wealth of information. Chalk paint has a matte finish, which you may prefer a satin finish which would require waxing and buffing. Hope you will post your finished project.Helpful Reply
