What is the best product to use for covering concrete flooring that is quick, easy and very cheap (for fear of being wreck and needing replaced again in a short time). Have an unfinished room in my basement that is in the process of becoming a finished bedroom...TIA

  • There is a thicker than normal rolled vinyl product held down by tape at the edges - that is about the cheapest & easiest to replace in case of water issues, damages, etc...

As mentioned by SLS above, my daughter covered her concrete floor with cushioned vinly roll-on linoleum,, which looks like ceramic tiles,,, she purchased it at Home Depot, and it was extremely easy to install, very inexpensive, and cut like butter with scissors. It took about one hour to do a 20 by 18 foot room, and another room of approx. 6 by 12 feet.

You can look into purchasing an Indoor/Outdoor carpeting, which you can easily remove should water issues occur.

I would try the "brown paper bag" DIY. Then place a few area rugs down for cozy decor.

I've heard of this idea and it appeals to me. I just have to find some instructions and where to buy the brown paper or what materials to use to make it permanent and get it down permanent on the floor. Thank you kindly.

You can get carpet squares they are peel and stick and come I believe in 24x24 inch squares they are easy to cut and lay down and come in several colors and cost about 40 to 50 for a case of Carpet squares

Good idea on the brown bags. I was thinking wrapping paper maybe as just a border. I see plywood being used on floors also why not just stain the concrete. And again add a few area rugs.

My son did a fabulous make-over of his basement with large carpet squared he got at a discount building supply house -- not a big box store. Check online for these type of stores near you. Buy a few extras for any that may get stained in the future.
    • I did a small project and needed a scrap of carpet. I went to a local independent establishment. They had tons of room size remnants on sale for pennies on the dollar. And I love shopping local AND supporting small and family run businesses when I can.

Waterproof paint with a nice design and topped with a few layers of poly, plus some area rugs.

@Keller Yes, thought of that as well, however, it's a lot more work than I'm able to do due to my condition. Any repetitious action puts me in excruciating pain! Last time I tried any painting I ended up in the E.R. for a strong shot! :( That was several years ago and have never picked up a roller since .... that's hubby's department now but his time is very limited unfortunately. This is something I need done before the first weekend in Dec. :( (last min reno and unexpected lol)

For quick, easy and cheap use concrete paint. It comes in variuis colours and if you are really creative you could even stencil a pattern on top for more flare and for long term wear and tear put a top coat of polyurethane on when finished

Vinyl plank flooring. It comes in various finishes, many of which look like wood. We redid a 1,000 sq. ft. basement with this and it went down fast and easy. The pieces stick to each other and it is cut with a utility knife. Our basement involved multiple rooms and we used it everywhere. When we sold the house it was everyone's favorite room.

@Kimberly A Yep, plan on doing that with my whole main floor as soon as I can find the time, and money :) Just curious? Do you mind telling me what to cost was? My main floor is approximately that size...*little bigger* .... so it would help knowing what I'm going to be looking at (ball park anyway) :) ty!

What ever you do make sure to put down a vapor barrier to keep moisture from coming up through the concrete . We used a collage of different discount tiles . It was a lot cheaper then carpet or wood planks . What look are you going for . Knowing that will make it easier to choose .
