Discolored appliance trim

The white plastic trim on my refrigerator, handles and plastic surround on the ice dispenser, and also the trim at the top of my oven door is now starting to age and yellow. I have used bleach, Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, ammonia, etc. but nothing seems to be able to restore it back to white. Anyone else have this problem and do you have a solution to get them clean? The appliances are not that old and the yellowing makes them look cheap!

It may not restore to white, however make a paste out of baking soda put and leave on the plastic for a while then wash off with white vinegar soap and water.

@Janet Pizaro thanks for your reply. I will try this. I would be happy to bring it back to "clean-looking" instead of dingy...I realize white would be quite a stretch!

I use Greased Lightning spray with the nozzle on foam. I applied it with a damp rag and left for 5 min.,,then used a magic sponge and it worked like a gem on mine,,of course not all appliances are equal but it's worth a try!! Good luck!

The yellowing is usually from a chemical reaction from exposure to light and oils and such over time. If the plastic areas are removable, you can soak them in a mixture of bleach and water for an hour or two, then rinse, dry, and put back in place. If not removable, you can get some fine-grit sandpaper. First, clean the plastic pieces, then dry, then very lightly sand the yellowing off, then wipe down with a clean cloth.

@AvonelleRed Unfortunately they are not removable. I'm to the point where painting may be an option, but I've heard that even that does not hold up for very long, and the ice dispenser area would be hard to get to. I'll give this a try also...thanks.

If you decide to paint them, then after the paint dries, spray on some polycrylic to help protect the paint. Make sure it's polycrylic, because polycrylic doesn't yellow over time the way polyurethane does.
