Painting over ugly tube and shower surround

Kimberly Barney on Mar 08, 2013Someone had a similar post earlier. One of the men that answer such questions said that it could be painted but he suggested that she hire a professional to assure even coverage. He said something about there being a button on Hometalk (I believe at the top) that would give you names of professionals in your area. I hope this helps.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Mar 09, 2013Most of these "kits" use brush and roller application while doable they do not look as nice as a "spray" job. Also keep in mind many of these kits are epoxy based and are very smelly...so a proper organic respirator should be used. Personally I'm a fan of tile, and would replace the enclosure with tile...but obviously that is a more costly option.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on Mar 10, 2013The thing about repainting or resurfacing professionally is that I understand they do not hold up. Not wanting to put tens of thousands redoing a perfectly working bathroom, I decided to work around my olive drab SINCE IT IS NOW BACK IN FASHION! (Go figure) Our yellow tile bathroom is accented in all white and is stunning! White and yellow has been a perfect decorating combination since the beginning of time!Helpful Reply

JuliaGulia on Nov 18, 2015I bought Rustoleum brush shower paint kit -not the spray. Painted my shower (plastic/resin)? Stall 3 yrs ago. Still looks good. I scrub it and paint stays on it. Yes I did it myself -it's not hard and you can't see brush strokes. Of course it stinks..had to sleep in guest room for 3 days, but it was worth to turn my ho hum beige shower stall to white. What have u got to lose? I got my kit at Home Depot.com. just scrub it really good first. Theres a lot of products that anal people use but I didnt.I just scrubbed till I felt I got ot clean. Then went over it lightly with sandpaper (not a too heavy grit and use your hand not a machine) rinse it - dry it- paint it!! I also painted the shower door surround w rustoleum bronze paint, the shower head, tub faucet. Its all staying on pretty well after 3 yrs except the bottom of shower doors where I scrub it too hard. But easy to touch up! Hope it helps!!Helpful Reply
