It's not too late to build a raised bed this year. Here's a step by step easy to do guide.
Supplies for an 8x4 1ft raised.one 8ft 4x4. Six 8ft 2x6. Ground screening. Three bags of 3cu ft of peat moss . 10sq ft garden soil. 8cu ft compist, which we got free at the recycling center.
Supplies for an 8x4 1ft raised.one 8ft 4x4. Six 8ft 2x6. Ground screening. Three bags of 3cu ft of peat moss . 10sq ft garden soil. 8cu ft compist, which we got free at the recycling center.
First step after you have obtained your supplies....cut in half two of your 6 2x6.s . You will now have four 4ft 2x6 and four 8ft 2x6's.
Step 3. Secure with 3in decking screws, your 4ft 2x6's to 2 of your 4x4's starting at the top of your 4x4 leaving the 4ins needed to sink in the ground. Do this twice and you will have two sections that look like a footboard of a bed.
Step 4. Secure your remaining four 8ft 2x6's to the two parts of the frame that you just completed. Now you have what looks just like a bed frame.
Step 5. Select where you want your bed to stay. It's best to place it length wise North to South for optimal sun. Dig four 4 inch holes where the feet of the bed will go.
Break for freeze pops.
Step 6. Turn over your grass and cover with screening.
Screening can be fastened with staples.
Step 7. Add 4 to 5 inches of compost.
Step 8. Add your peat moss and garden soil. Mix thoroughly. Oh SNAP! You're ready to plant!
