Making over old dresser into kitchen island with old wood top.

Roberta skelly on Nov 19, 2015you can use multiple coats of polyurethane to create a finish similar to a bar top. I have done this but it requires a lot of work. you need to repeatedly spray on the finish and sand with very fine grit paper, wipe with a tack rag and do again and again until you get to yoor desired end. it protects agst moisture but not heat.Helpful Reply

Red Cottage Chronicles on Nov 22, 2015You can also buy a food safe wood protection. We have butcher block counters and use Watco Butcher Block Oil & Finish. It is labelled safe for food contact and provides a protective finish (if applied to untreated wood). We got ours at Home Depot.Helpful Reply
