So what do you do with the black pepper? Spread it on the ground?

I've never heard of using black pepper to prevent squash bugs, but it sounds like a good idea. I'd spread on the ground, around the squash plants.

Plain old ordinary chalk does the trick. Just as it does to prevents ants. Neither incest along with other undesirables hate the chalk dust that gets on their legs and does NOT come off.You now have a Line of Demarcation against incests.

Chalk, like diatomaceous earth (pool filter stuff) breaks the outer shells of bugs. so it works in garden perimeters and house areas infested. Chalk dust, though spreads and will get tracked in house if close to door. I had a stink bug infestations on the farm and used to spray malathion and diazinon mix with sprayer. (Both may be banned chemicals by now) but it worked immediately on the swarms which attached to the side of house and barn.

If using black pepper I would think you would shake it all over the plant and then if it rains you would have to redo it! Hope this helps!

I have never had that many . I usually just pick them off and drop in a can filled halfway with vinegar, dawn and water. Doesn't take that much , maybe a pint size container.
