Sticky oak floor

My oak wood floor in the kitchen and living room is horrid! Two years ago we had ripped up the carpet in the living room and had an oak floor installed to match the floor in our kitchen. Since then every time I mop the floor is dull and has a sticky feeling. I started out using Bona and have switched to Epps but it's still in the same condition. Now I'm just using plain vinegar and water. Can anyone help me solve my problem? Is it the finish they put on the floor or is it me? On a side note: The floor in the closet, which has never been mopped, just sweeped is in perfect condition!

It sounds like the finish that was put down,I would recommend you call the installer if everything you have tried did not work.

it sounds like you may have a build up of wax on your floor..try stripping them with ammonia water real good then apply a good (not dollar store brand) wax and finish with a buffer..will take some work but worth it in the long run!

@Tracy I haven't tried the amonia and water yet, it never occured to me to use this. I'll have to try this next! If this doesn't work I'm going to have to call the installer.

After you get the situation fixed I would recommend you only use hot water, and make sure you don't soak the wood with water. Make sure to wring out the mop as much as possible.

It sounds llike the vinegar solution may have broken down the finish.

@Liliana Wells Actually it started before I used the vinegar and water solution. I was using Bona and dusting with the swiffers when I noticed the problem starting. I called Bona and they told me that it was a wax buildup from the swiffers. Upon their recomendation I use a vinegar and water solution to remove the wax build up. After the holidays are over I'm just going to have to get it refinished.
