Nancy Russell on Nov 28, 2015I just did this last year. I took an old LP, set the oven at 250 degrees, put the album on an upside down stainless steel mixing bowl that I placed on a cookie sheet. I put it in the oven and about every few minutes, with a hot pad, I pushed on the edge of the record, to see if it was pliable. When it was easy to bend, I took it out of the oven, and bent and shaped it the way I wanted it to look. Then, just let it cool and you've got a great serving bowl or ??? Whatever you want to use it for!Helpful Reply

L on Nov 28, 2015Nancy Russell (above) describes the technique I used back in the 60's to make a "bowl" from an LP. Be sure to use the stove fan to minimize the fumes. Have fun. An LP would also make a great wall clock, the hole is already there!Helpful Reply

Margie on Nov 28, 2015Nancy is right...or if you're really darning and have a BBQ put it in there on low until the record is soft and folds over the bowl or can or whatever shape you use. We found all sorts of odd shaped metal things that could go into the oven and made our records into vases or the bowls. Can't remember what we painted them with either but made some for Christmas presentsHelpful Reply

Nancy Russell on Nov 29, 2015Veronica, try a second hand store or Goodwill if you have one near you. Albums are usually just a dollar or sometimes, even less!Helpful Reply

Jane R. on Nov 30, 2015When I was a preteen, we placed the albums in the hot sun to soften them. Then spray painted them after they were shaped and cooled off. I don't remember the shaping process but you could sit them on top of a clay pot to soften.Helpful Reply

Nancy Russell on Dec 01, 2015Here's a picture of mine. I use it a lot for chips or popcorn. You can also makes coasters from the inner circles. Cut them out with a jigsaw, sand the edges and you've got matching coasters! ( I haven't made them yet. )Helpful Reply
