As we started decorating for Christmas at The Blue Building Antiques and Consignment, the vintage Christmas decor took a different turn, As usual, we pulled out the vintage ornaments, the trees, the angels, the sleds. But we just couldn't take down this one symbol of strength and unity. There was an underlying message lingering behind, begging to be heard!
Glorious 4 ft wide magnificent American Eagle
We started to dismantle the Thanksgiving and fall decor at The Blue Building Antiques and Consignment, Pop (my 81 year old dad and trusty sidekick) objected as I started to remove this glorious 4 feet wide magnificent American Eagle. "Leave the eagle where he is!" Pop said. "I like him right there!" I stopped for a moment. When we switch out a display, we always start with a new palette so that the customers have a completely different visual. I really love this eagle but felt he needed to be moved. In lieu of arguing with Pop, I left him there with the intent of taking him down later and we started pulling out the traditional vintage Christmas decor.
Lots of vintage elements at The Blue Building
As always, I try to have an inspiration piece when I start a display. This time it was these ice skates and this louvered panel.
An ice skate wreath adds charm!
I usually start my "hoarding" for Christmas in July. This year, I found these ice skates at the thrift store. I knew I needed them for a wreath. The plantation louver showed up compliments of a wonderful Blue Building vendor for $5! Yes, these are the finds we have at our store! I grabbed the beautiful ribbon from Sam's Club...huge roll of like 20 yards for $7.
Thrift store ceramic tree!
I am a sucker for a ceramic tree! I just simply cannot resist them. At home I have 3 large ones that I made back in the 70's for my mom, my gramdmom and my great-grandmom. I also inherited 3 from my SIL's MIL! Yes I am one lucky girl! This odd tree was found at the thrift store sans lights. Two secs on Amazon.com and I had a bag of 100 for $3.00. Score!
Antique bell ornaments dated to 1930.
A customer showed up just the other day with these paper bell ornaments from the 1930's that belonged to her grandmother. How do you say no to those?
Vintage items with Christmas color.
Vintage candle holders at Blu!
These vintage camel candle holders were also purchased from a Blue Building dealer who specializes in vintage and Mid Century items.
Perfect Christmas quilt!
And yet another dealer had this irresistible quilt. Doesn't it just scream CHRISTMAS??!!!
Pray for Peace! The ultimate Christmas wish.
Which brings us to our leftover Thanksgiving centerpiece...the great eagle. After the process of selecting the above items, I was sufficiently in the Christmas spirit. I realized that Pop was indeed right! With all of the turmoil these past few weeks and the horrid events in Paris and California, I realized that this regal fellow should remain at the entrance to the store. He is prominently displayed above our Christmas display as a not so subtle reminder that prayers are needed in our world of instability. The ultimate Christmas wish is World Peace...our reminder: Pray for Peace!
Merry Christmas from Pop!
And Pop says have a safe and merry Christmas season! God Bless!
