DIY Reindeer Specimen Art (and My Christmas Mantel)

I've decorated my mantel for Christmas basically the same for the past few years. This year it was time for a change! Knowing that my husband would go nuts if I bought more Christmas decor, I had to get creative and repurpose things I already had and make some new things to fill in the gaps. I came up with some fun Reindeer Specimen Art as a focal point for this year's mantel, and it was one of the simplest projects ever!
First, I found a stretched linen canvas that had been sitting in my craft stash for a long time. I knew it would be perfect for this project! Then, I used my electronic cutting machine to cut nine reindeer silhouettes on Christmas-themed cardstock. (If you don't have a cutting machine, there's an easy way to make reindeer silhouettes by hand. You can find the tip on my blog - linked below!)
Once I had my pile of paper reindeer, I laid them out the way I thought looked best. Then I applied a thin layer of mod podge onto each silhouette, one-by-one, and placed them onto the canvas.
After the base layer of mod podge dried, I applied a thin layer of mod podge on top of each reindeer to ensure they were fully secured.
Once the top layer of mod podge dried, I used a sharpie to label each reindeer. I also hot glued a red pom pom to Rudolph's face. (Gotta give the guy proper credit!)
And that was it! Totally cute art for my mantel in no time at all.
This little piece of art makes me happy, and I hope it makes you happy, too!
