Looking to purchase either a Silhouette or Cricut. Which is most user friendly? I want to use it for material for cutting for quilts and making iron on transfers for pillow, shirts etc but also for cards.

The silhouette machines are very versatile and easy to use. There is also a huge community of bloggers and users online who offer tutorials on how to do many things with it - they even have free fonts and designs! Cricut is a wonderful machine, but sometimes the cartridges you need to use with them can be limiting and expensive. Personally, I went with Silhouette and I've been thrilled with it!

If I were able to purchase an electronic diecutting machine it would be the Silhouette. The Cricut is great but the Silhouette is better. I have online friends with both and and they've all said in one way or another they like their silhouettes more.

See if you borrow one first to try it out.

@Karen Reilly I LIKE THIS IDEA. I HAVE PUT OFF GETTING ONE FOR FEAR I WOULD NOT USE IT ENOUGH TO MAKE IT WORTH WHILE GETTING IT.

If you can afford it, the Brother ScanNCut is amazing. Yes, they are a little more expensive than the Silhouette and Cricut, but it's got a LOT more features. Most stores that sell it will offer you free lessons on what all it can do. I use it for my quilting, scrapbooking, making cards, tags, etc. You can cut vinyl and you can also use the vinyl as a stencil and then apply it to glass as a stencil and you can do etching. The ScanNCut also has a program where you can make your own stickers, and a program where you can cut your own rubber stamps. They have a line of adhesive-backed material that can be ironed onto fabric, and they have a separate program where you can adhere rhinestones with ease. I love mine and have had it for at least 2+ years. The Brother website offers support, projects, etc. Most stores that sell it also offer special financing with no interest. If you get a minute, go online and check it out. Also, there are a lot of youtube videos showing you the ScanNCut and what it can do and how to use it

I own a Cricut and would NOT suggest it, Cartridges are a pain. Michaels usually has a night od crafting where you can use a Cricut to see what its like. You might also want to check out Craig list for one Someone else decided they didn't use enough

Thank you Joanne. From reviews on other sites I kinda got that impression.
