KMS Woodworks on Dec 28, 2011I have used the larger "rat" traps for critters like this. Peanut butter on the trip plate. If you do not want to kill it then there are a number of live traps you can get...some are available (borrow / rent) through local wildlife offices.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Dec 28, 2011Be very careful with these critters. They can do a lot of damage in a short while. Just removing them is not the only answer to your problem. Its keeping them away that is the hard part. Be sure to seal off the opening with wire hardware cloth. This metal material will prevent them from chewing back into the nice warm and fuzzy attic area. Also killing these animals can be a local offense and you can get a big fine if you kill them. So the live trapping is the best method. Place this trap outside. Many put them in attics, but you really want to catch them when there out looking for food. Not introduce them to more food inside the home.Helpful Reply

Teresa D on Dec 28, 2011Thanks for asking this question. I'm going to keep an eye out for this one. Im developing a sore spot for squirrels on my roof too. Probably only a matter of time before they hit my attic as well. They keep knocking the covers off my gutters and my roof is so high, it is not easy getting up there to replace them. I was just telling myself that something needed to be done about these critters.Helpful Reply

Walter Reeves on Dec 28, 2011I agree that live trapping is the best course. Put the trap near a birdfeeder if you have one. Check the trap before noon each day.Helpful Reply

Paul M on Dec 28, 2011Live trap with peanut butter bait, as has been mentioned, will do the trick. Now if you wrap your fascia boards in metal then you won't get any intruders in the first place, not to mention that water will stay out and painting will be eliminated. If you get rid of the squirrel and there is still a hole in your fascia what will keep another one from moving in?Helpful Reply

Jean V on Dec 29, 2011I listened carefully to your description of live trapping and carrying the squirrel to a different location on your radio show. I have a little live trap and plan to desensitize the critter to getting food from it before setting the trap. After that, we will go for a ride in the car. But you are saying to put the trap outside instead of in the attic? That is where the squirrel is hanging out and I want to get the right one.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Dec 29, 2011Yes you want the trap outside. Putting food in the house in order to get them will only attract other buddies and introduce them to the nice warm fuzzy climate in your attic area. Also you do not care if you get the right one or not. Keep trapping them until they do not come around. Do not waste your time with desensitizing the trap. Set it, trap him, and take a long drive to release. He or she will be fine. Place a towel over the trap when you travel just to help calm it down. As you begin trapping, Seal off the opening right away.Helpful Reply

Place apples cut in 1/4 and slather with peanut butter set them in a cup or small bowl at the end past the trip area on the trap and place up in attic on level area so it can easily release make sure you have cllearance all around. 8-10 inches away from anything. Leave overnight should have results next day., simply remove trap and take a long way away 20 miles or to the people you dont likes house and release.
