My boy would LOVE a tree house

My 7 yr old son would love a tree house and he begs for one when we see one in another yard. He even loves the little fort at the top of some swing sets. The problem is, in South FL the trees are too skinny and tall- with no branches- to support one. Any ideas on how I can get the same boy/tree house/fort idea, and is he almost too old to put time and money into something?

@Polly Zieper I don't think he's too old, I'd love to have a treehouse big & fancy, or small & simple, & I'm 57yrs old! (sssshhhh....... don't tell anyone how old I am) Build it on stilts... check google, or pinterest for lots of ideals! P.S. my daughters old playhouse formerly belonged to another girl (much older than our daughter) who gave it to us when she went off to college! The original owners of the playhouse lived just off a creek that often floods in Middleburg, Fl. & it was built 25ft up in the air on stilts! It was quite a feat to cut it down safely & move it to our backyard!

Never too old for a cool hangout! Would you consider a "fort" rather than a treehouse? Something like a potting shed could be used now and even up to his teen years ( jr. man cave). Home stores have sheds available and I've seen awesome use of space making them into outdoor living areas.

Build a cubby house in the garden instead. Maybe you could construct something around it to look like a fake tree house - imitate tree branches around it somehow using lumber?

@Carole great idea, using branches or leaves to give it a treehouse feeling! We see landscape trucks out all the time, cutting brush and trimming around power poles, etc, so I know we could get some real tree branches:)Ive even found a fairly straight branch and used it as a curtain rod for my son's room.
