Challenged to create something from an old book I decided I wanted to come up with something different. I used a folding technique I've seen before but created something I'd not seen before. The result - place card holders made out of an old book. And I love them! I hope perhaps you will love them too.
Folded pages, a book cover for the base and some plaid ribbon to dress them up and these are the most fun place card holders I've ever seen!

Begin with an old book - a thrift store book will work fine - it doesn't have to be antique. Preferably not so old that the pages crumble or crack when folded.
For this project you don't need the whole book. I ended up cutting a piece out that was only 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick at the spine. A utility knife works great to cut down the spine of a book.
