Janet Pizaro on Jan 06, 2016Personally I would not paint them.I love wood the way it is. If anything I would look into staining them a updated color providing there is no finish on them.Helpful Reply

MN Mom on Jan 06, 2016If you want to paint them, paint them! Not everyone likes wood...if you want to make a change you could try keeping the blinds and pulling them up/open and adding a narrow curtain panel on each side of your window. Easy to sew or buy pre-made and easy to change. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Snapoutofit on Jan 06, 2016If you like them, why not just add a valance to the top of the window to add some color and accent?Helpful Reply

Julie on Jan 07, 2016I would paint the wood blinds white to get a fresh clean look. Decorating with White and layers of white is a coming color trend in decoration. Either a paint brush or spray would work fine as long as it's done carefully to create a professional look. Post photos of your before and after!Helpful Reply

Linda T on Jan 07, 2016Somewhere on Hometalk, or one of the other decorating sites, is the 'how to's' for making a Roman shade. You use fabric glue, so you don't need to know how to sew, and you can tear off the fabric to change colours if you want to.Helpful Reply

Terra Gazelle on Jan 07, 2016If you want to paint..paint. You can do a wash with paint or stain them a color with a gel stain, which I love. Wipe on, wipe off and it gives a depth of color. You might want to use the blinds as that added pop of color...without knowing what the room looks like its hard to advise. But good luck and make it something you love.Helpful Reply

LindaK on Jan 07, 2016These are all good ideas, but have you considered stenciling on them? Years ago I saw a picture of wood blinds that had a stenciled design, I loved it.Helpful Reply

Accentuations! on Jan 07, 2016Hi Tilly! This is something I've done recently, so maybe I can help. I took my blinds apart starting at the bottom. If you untie the knots at the bottom and remove the hardware you can take each piece one at a time. I threw mine in the bath tub and cleaned them well, wiped them dry and even let the dry more over night. You didn't say what they are made from, so I will tell you that what you paint with can make a difference, For wood, just about any paint or stain will work out, with vinyl you will want (for example) a Krylon product made for plastics for better adhesion. Either way, I would use a SPRAY paint or stain for a smoother, more attractive finish. White, is indeed a trend for this next year or so, but I say,,,go with what you love!Helpful Reply
