Douglas Hunt on Jan 14, 2012Crimson King was one of the most requested maple cultivars at the nursery where I worked in the Hudson Valley, chiefly, I believe, because of the foliage color. It is relatively fast-growing and provides dense shade, but there can definitely be root issues if not given enough space. I had no interest in having one for my own yard because I had a lot of mature trees and had room for only one specimen, and I gave that spot to a yellowwood.Helpful Reply

Mike and Anne on Jan 14, 2012I agree with Michael Dirr's comment that it is an exclamation point in the landscape. The plant has been in the trade for many years. It's slow growing and has wonderful color.Helpful Reply

Shirley donnell on May 16, 2016I would not choose any maple tree because the roots run on top of the ground, making it hard to mow and hard to walk in the yard...Helpful Reply
