DIY Home Décor - Reflections

My first project of the new year was giving my daughter's old dresser mirror a facelift. I thought it rather symbolic during a time when I was reflecting on the past year and what changes I'd like to make in 2016.
As I studied the frame trying to decide just how to update the old thing my eye caught my reflection. I saw new wrinkles, more gray a turkey neck. I gulped at the sight (and made my wattle wag).Ugh. Another old thing that could use an update I thought. But after a few moments of self criticizing I stopped myself. No more. This will be my first change of the new year. My resolution will be to love and accessorize myself. Oops, I mean accept! To love and accept myself! Wattle and all! But not that old mirror. It definitely needed some accessorizing.
So, I got busy painting the frame first. Then took some old artificial fern leaves I dug up and painted them gold. Next, I hot glued them to the top and bottom of the frame for embellishment. Finally, I dry brushed the entire piece with some leftover off-white sample latex paint.
I can honestly say I'm pretty happy with the results of this new year's project...and it's reflection. Happy New Year!

Kathryne Williams Davis on Jan 14, 2016Creative! Like we all need to be with ourselves and our lives. Looks to me like you are already accessorized. Pretty picture. If you try this again, check out old metal jewelry instead of the fern. I could probably send a zillion.. but that's my next project.
