do you have a recipe for homemade liquid washing soap?

Shari on Apr 07, 2013Hi Camille. If you put "liquid laundry" in the search box at the top left of the HomeTalk page, several links will come up for homemade liquid laundry soap recipes. If you have a newer HE washer, especially a front load washer, I am of the opinion, powdered laundry soap is actually better for the washer than liquid soaps, particularly the commercially made liquid laundry products. I did a lot of research before buying my front load HE washer because I was really concerned about the "smelly washer"/moldy smell so many of them seem to develop. There was a very strong correlation between people who had the smelly washer problems and liquid laundry soap and fabric softener. Some believe (as I do) that the oils in these commercial liquid laundry products leave behind a film that isn't washed away by the low, energy saving water levels of the HE washers. As a result, the sticky film is the perfect breeding ground for harboring moisture, which in turn causes mold and mildew.Helpful Reply

KMS Woodworks on Apr 07, 2013If your doing this for "economic" reasons I have found that some concentrates sold at Costco and other large scale outfits beat just about anything I could make my self. http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_SPM5859879809P?ci_src=184425893&ci_sku=SPM5859879809&sid=IDx20130125xMPALLx028 The boulder product above is about 13 to 15 bucks at my local costco and at 200 ounces will do about 100 loads of laundry in my top loader ...that come to about 15 cents a load.Helpful Reply
