This is my first mosaic tile project.

Being influenced and inspired by my Mexican heritage, I put together this design. I used one of those inexpensive round 3 leg side tables that you would normally use in a bedroom, cover with table cloth and a round glass top. I always hated that look but any way, this is more of a modern take to update a simple design. I also painted the legs using red and black. I first painted them red and used a candle to apply wax in a various pattern, then painted black over them. After it dried, I took steel wool and rubbed it over the paint and wherever the wax was, the paint came off showing the red paint underneath. I think it's a great affect. Hope you enjoy!

Wow, Laura. Shimmery and stunning. Especially like how you incorporated the red into the rest of the table. Very nice work!!

Thank you AK and Sheila! I used iridescent glass tiles and it gives that shimmery affect and looks different at different angles. I also had a big red couch to coordinate with the room. :-)

WOW! Your stuff is gorgeous! I've always wanted to do something like this. I feel like I buy materials to do projects like this and the I get overwhelmed or run out of time and the materials just sit in a box until my husband throws them out :(

I'm jealous of your abilities and motivation. Amazing!

Lulu - I found that when it came down to necessity, it was more motivating for me to follow through and finish the table. I really needed a side table and didn't have the extra money to buy one at the time. I still have a few other mosaic projects that need to be finished but I am working on a gift for someone so those get put on the back burner unfortunately. I'm a single mom, working full time and the way I relax is to be creative after my daughter goes to sleep. Many times I have to ...»
force myself to go to sleep because I get so into the work, it's hard for me to stop. Maybe one day I'll have my own studio and won't have to do the regular 9-5...a girl can dream right? :-)

Thats a very cost effective and creative way to get what you need for furniture. It can be addictive when you are working on anything that you really enjoy. Again, great work. :)

You're welcome, Laura! Yes. I know sometimes when I'm working on an art project or what have you, it's tough to peel me away from it. I can only imagine how addictive working in that table must've been. If it were me, you'd probably still find me working on it halfway through the day. LOL. ;)

I definitely get that Laura. It's amazing that you're able to juggle all of that.. My main issue is space. If I start a project, I have to finish it because otherwise I'd have no place to store it in the interim. A girl can definitely dream; and I have a similar one. That dream house of mine definitely consists of a crafts room.

Thanks Lulu. I don't think we are alone with our space issues. I like to think that even if some of us have the perfect crafting room, there is always a space issue. I think my dream house will consist of a crafting room and a house built around it...lol

I know what you two mean. I barely have room but to place the Wacom or drawing tablet on my lap. If I want to create any other project my craft stuff is all over the place LOL!
