Freshen Up Your Living Room With Paint

Do you have a room that's starting to look dated or tired? Fresh paint could be the answer to buying you some time without spending a bunch.
Although our entire main floor needed an update, we decided to start with our living room since it's less involved than the kitchen.
The overall plan was to achieve a light and airy feel. We started by clearing out the entire space, including the old carpet and oak base boards.
After trying several paint swatches around the room at different times of the day, I narrowed the options down to 3 colors from Benjamin Moore's off-white collection. To find out the specific paint color choices, visit the blog (link below).

Tip: I highly recommend sampling paint on the wall before purchasing enough for the entire room. It may be an additiional cost, but usually ends up saving you time, money and a big headache in the end.
To freshen up the fireplace, I decided to paint the wood on the mantel a soft white.
Choosing the right paint color is important, but taking the time to prep the walls is key to a flawless finish. Fill holes with spackling, sand down any rough patches or lumps, and use a slightly dampened sponge to wipe away any dust

After only giving half the room one coat of paint, I knew it was the perfect color choice.

Although we still have a few tasks ahead to complete the room, I'm enjoying the light and airy feel. It will serve as the perfect backdrop to the decor pieces I plan on adding for texture and color.

  • I love that color choice! I may have to borrow that! When I saw the mantle in the wood, I thought she should paint all the wood parts black so it would pop against the white. Or check out Kendall Charcoal by BM. That might be a better choice. I like the white as well, but it disappears against the background.
