This simple valance is easy to make and easy on the budget. I purchased a roman shade for my husband's office and wanted to cover the top portion of the shade. The box pleat provides the right amount of coverage and is simple for my husband's less than fussy taste:)
I added a simple black and cream trim to complete the the valance. .
I cut the fabric length wise and sewed the two halves together to create a longer valance. My windows measured 56.5in so I needed a long enough width to create a pleat in the center and a small pleat on the edges
Pin and sew the lining to the decorative fabric and firmly press in place once you have turned the fabric to the right side. Double hem all sides.
Measure the window and cut the 2x4 to size, allowing about 2in additional on each side of the window. Measure the center of the 2x4 and mark. Firmly attached the fabric to the 2x4 while you measure the tucks for the ends of the 2x4. This may take some time, since it is best to have equal amount of fabric on both sides of the valance.
Attach the soft side of the veclro to the your folded valance, with seams in place.
Press the valance well. Take your time with this step, since a nicely pressed valance looks professional and custom.
Attach the L-bracket to the 2x4 along with the rough sided velcro.Hang the 2x4 to the wall and add your fabric piece. For more detailed instructions and other fun sewing projects, please visit the blog.

can this be made without the center pleat? I want a valance with a curved bottom.
