Mahonia
My question is, how do I achieve a huge mahonia? Do I just let it grow and grow on its own?
Also, I'd love advice on replanting the other two mahonias. They are not in a good spot (right outside a front window) and I'd rather plant other bushes there.

Walter Reeves on Jan 23, 2012If they are scraggly you can get better shape by cutting them to 12" and letting them regrow. Pinch the branch tips whenever they get 8" long.Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jan 25, 2012Melissa, everything I have read suggests mahonia is a challenge to transplant because it resents having its roots disturbed.Helpful Reply

David S on Jan 27, 2012I NEVER REALLY LIKED MAHONIA UNTIL I SAW IT PLANTED AGAINST THE BUILDING OF A LOCAL CHIC -FIL-A IN THE DRIVE THRU AREA . THEY ARE BASICALLY SHADED AND FACING NORTH . THEY ARE VERY BUSHY AND PRUNED ON A REGULAR BASIS . THEY CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT MAHONIA .Helpful Reply
