360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Jan 24, 2012The Dynamite is a relatively small growing Crape Myrtle(under 20ft) with a cherry to deep red bloom. How much space do you have and how close to the house will you be going? You can plant them now, or through spring. They are a really easy tree to grow.Helpful Reply

Walter Reeves on Jan 24, 2012FS asks the most important question: how much space do you have. There are crapemyrtles for and space but they can be a big problem if you plant a big one in a small space....too much pruning!Helpful Reply

Sara z on Jan 24, 2012my backyard is proximity 50 by 30 ft, I am going to cut the big pines and then have empty space in yard. I am thinking about crape myrtle or any other trees that have beautiful blossom in season for some privacy and better view in my back yard. Thanks for all your wonderful ideas.Helpful Reply

Ricardo B on Jan 24, 2012I have crepe myrtles all over my yard... Like Them a lot. In October of 2010, I purchased and planted two red dynamites and they wintered over well. That next spring of 2011 they put out new branches and they put out red-red blooms. I only have one noticeable drawback that was pretty obvious. They just don't grow and put out branches like I expected. All my other trees have no problem doing that and I have to keep on them to remove sucker branches where I don't want them. I hope they do better this spring, otherwise... I give mine to you, Sara!Helpful Reply

Douglas Hunt on Jan 25, 2012For another option with spectacular summer blooms, Sara, you might want to consider the chaste tree, Vitex agnus-castus.Helpful Reply

David S on Jan 25, 2012UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS CREPE MYRTLE WILL GROW WIDE AND TALL . I'VE GOT 7 NATCHEZ [ WHITE ] 1 MUSKOGEE [LAVENDER ] AND 1 TUSKEGEE [DARK PINK/RED ] ALL OF WHICH ARE AT LEAST 10 YEARS OLD AND OVER 20' TALL . I ALSO HAVE A CHASTE TREE THAT IS AT LEAST 5 YEARS OLD AND OVER 10' TALL . FROM WHAT I'VE READ A DYNAMITE IS SMALLER WITH TRUE RED FLOWERING . AS LONG AS FOLKS DON'T PERFORM CREPE MURDER , A CREPE MYRTLE MAKES A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER SHOW OF COLOR . MY ONLY CAVEAT WOULD BE ON A NATCHEZ .......THEY ARE PROLIFIC BLOOMERS THAT WEEP AFTER A RAIN AND OFTEN DON'T RETURN TO FULL HEIGHT . THERFORE , I'VE HAD TO PRUNE THEM UPWARDS .Helpful Reply

Shirley Midgett on Feb 28, 2015ALL crepe myrtles are beautiful but to get the look you want, you should see them in bloom. And, if you want privacy remember these lose their leaves in winter so will not be a year round screen.Helpful Reply
