Several years ago when I was selling large telephone systems to our AT&T Clients, I used make it a point to be on premise with our installation crew to keep them happy with pizza, coffee, donuts (whatever it took) and to be with our customer to resolve any issues or make any last minute changes required.
I said all that to just say that my favorite part of my day was to go into the equipment

closet (which usually the utility closet too) and see the neat rows of colorful wiring and how the techs prided themselves in making their work look neat in appearance and methodical in execution... It was amazing. They knew some of them would be coming back to maintain that inside wiring so they wanted to ensure an easy visit later!
I've got to say that now that I'm retired... I have seen some demarc boards and closets that would bring tears to our old retired techs the way that some workers come in, make a mess and leave knowing they're not likely to come back. Our old guys brought a work of art into their craft in the good old days.
I had this done in my house shortly after we moved in. We did it because our inspector said our old panel was unsafe, but the wiring looked like the before picture. It was so comforting as a homeowner to see the cleaner panel after.
The part that I like the best is once the cover is on and all of the circuits are neatly and properly labeled. If I need to install a light fixture in one room I want to be able to walk up to a panel read the labels and flip the breaker..done. Not go on some crazy wild goose chase looking with hit and miss randomness.
It has been my experience that the panel can be fairly representative (snapshot) of the quality of the rest of the work. The panel on the right has "professional" written all over it. Tim
