I'm trying to redo my 11 year old daughters bedroom and really having a hard time figuring out how to hang curtains.
Its hard to see in the picture, but see how the window butts up against the bookshelf? How do I hang a curtain rod in this situation? Any ideas??
Unless you use curtain rods that are hinged and only go halfway across the window. Using this type of rod will allow your daughter to swing the curtain open to allow access to the shutter which then can be opened. ...»
Or using very small rods like they use on doors with windows. Place a rod on top of the shutter itself so you can open the shutter by the hinges to allow to open the window.
What you do not want to do is prevent easy access to the window in case of an emergency such as her sneaking out at night when she gets older. Or a fireman getting in or out in case of a fire or real emergency.
Another idea is to do a curved curtain rod -- one that goes along the wall and then curves onto the bookshelf. Not sure where you would find such a curved rod, though.
You could also hang curtains from the very top of the shutters. You would have to hang two panels, one from each shutter.
