KMS Woodworks on Jan 27, 2012This is called water hammer and can be addressed with a few tricks. The best is to secure the pipes and provide an expansion device ( these are small metal tanks with a "bladder" type balloon inside) it adsorbs the shock. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_hammerHelpful Reply

Dave on Jan 27, 2012Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas. changed the controler made the noise twice as loud....only does it with the hot water. I've had three plumbers out, one charged $67 to look around, second charged $125 and told me to get some attachments for the washer and dryer, the third told me for $38 Hum, hum, I told him to leave.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Feb 03, 2012Some noise can be had because of over pressure. Many times the pressure regulator is set to high and with some of the lower quality faucets they chatter when you turn them down for low flow or even when you attempt to turn them off. The cheep seals vibrate open and closed real fast which results in all kinds of strange noises coming out of the pipes. Check your pressure first. If that is not it, then follow Nichter's advice install water hammer arrestor.Helpful Reply
