I live in Florida where there is a great deal of humidity and I chose faux plantation shutters. I have had them for seven years and they look new. Easy to clean and dust, and I was told if you need a replacement part or slat, it's an easy fix. I also ordered the wider slats and I've always received positive comments.

I lov wood but I choose faux because of the direct sun on my windows. In the 4 years of having them they look the same as the day installed. they look like wood.

I have purchased both and honestly, unless you touch or handle them, you cannot tell the difference. If you are going to frame or even cover with sheers or drapes, it is way more economical to go faux.

I ve had both. I prefer faux. Real ones warp, especially when exposed to direst sun. Not an issue with faux.

I have both real wood and faux in my home. The faux wood is easier to clean if you don't have time to use a wood cleaner and just like to use multipurpose cleaner like a Windex product. The wood blinds need a little more attention. I've not had problems with warping and my wood blinds face west. Both types have a nice heft and my faux blinds look just as nice as wood and were much less expensive.

Hi Ciaran. I have the faux blinds. I dislike both. They collect dust and are hard to keep clean. Fortunately, with the faux ones you can take them outside and hose them off! Soon for me though, they will all be gone.

I've had both and love the faux - couldn't tell the difference except for the higher price and maintenance wood requires!

I love the faux ones because they clean so well in the bathtub with warm water, a little bleach and soap powder! And you can have them cut to size at the big box stores! The price is very reasonable! I don't have the energy nor inclination to paint wood ones!

Faux are more cost effective for a makeover. Like the other ladies stated, you can clean them in the tub or spray them off outside.

I prefer real wood blinds. But when my kids were small I had the faux wood because they were cheaper and less expensive to replace when the blinds got broken. And we went through quite a few replacements! My wood blinds have held up for many years with no problems. . . but the kids are older now. :-)

Definitely the faux. I've had both also. Over time the wood ones started looking bad. The paint would fade, they would warp. While the faux ones held up much better. Best part was you could take them down and soak the in the tub or hand them outside and scrub them clean.

Nothing beats real wood... However, real wood is a pain in the posterior when it comes to cleaning and/or maintenance. If you decide after a while to paint or stain them a different color, you can do it, but it is a ton of hard work. Personally, I love the look of real wood blinds, but I detest the maintenance & cleaning of them. Faux blinds are easy to maintain, easy to clean, & rare is it that they get broke beyond repair. so which way do you go? think about the maintenance, the cleaning, think about the color/shade of the wood vs. faux, and when you have thought & decided on all that, only then will you have your answer on which way to go.
