KMS Woodworks on Jan 29, 2012We have had dogs (big and small) for 20 years. A "multi" colored carpet may hide accidents better...but any open fiber carpet should be fine. Berber with closed loops could snag and run if caught on dogs toenails. We went with a medium tan color to hide dirt better. This is only in two lesser used bedrooms...the rest of the house is set up with hardwoods, tile and area rugs.Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jan 29, 2012We too have a multi colored carpet in our family room just for the pets. Its a very tight Berber carpet and its been there for over 25 years. It has held up quite well with very little wear zones, or at least we cannot see them. But the padding is also very important as well. You need to choose the best quality padding that you can afford if you want your carpet, regardless of what you choose to stand up for a long time.Helpful Reply

Ricardo B on Jan 29, 2012Ha! Love these easy questions... KMS and Woodbridge stole my thunder. I had berber put into two of my homes when I had pets and grandchildren everywhere. It wears and wears and... well, you know!Helpful Reply

Ricardo B on Jan 30, 2012Um, if you love your pets, Judy, they would love for you to clip their nails since they also don't enjoy having their nails caught in carpet. When you clip, do it a tiny bit at a time so you don't accidentally clip into the quick when runs at the center and into the claw. Do it gently and lovingly. REMEMBER: When a dog owner/homeowner takes on the responsibility of having pets indoors much of the time and not outdoors romping and digging, they must also take on the responsibility of doing what pets do naturally outdoors when their instincts tell them to scratch, dig and do other stuff to none down the nails. I know this isn't a pet advice website, but pet owners need to be aware of how their lifestyle can affect the pets whom they choose to associate...Helpful Reply
